400 BC: The Thracians live in parts of Bulgaria.
100 AD: The Romans rule Bulgaria.
395: Bulgaria becomes part of the Eastern Roman Empire when the empire splits in two.
c. 500: The Slavs settle in Bulgaria.
Poland:
966: The ruler of Poland becomes a Christian and his people follow.
1201-1238: Henry the Bearded rules Poland. His wife encourages German merchants and craftsmen to come and live in Poland.
1241-42: The Mongols invade Poland but soon withdraw.
Ukraine:
45000- 43000 BC: Neanderthal mammoth hunters build their dwellings in Ukraine.
1300-750 BC: Cimmerian Kingdom, homeland of the fictional Conan the Barbarian, established its rule over the Pontic steppes of Southern Ukraine.
750-500 BC: Greek trading colonies are established on the north shore of the Black Sea; Greeks imagine Amazon female warriors populate the Ukrainian steppes to the north.
250-375: Goths defeat Sarmatians and establish their rule over Ukrainian lands.
650-900 BC: Khazar kaganate collects tribute from Slavic tribes in Ukraine.
1st millennium BCE: the steppe hinterland was occupied successively by the Cimmerians, Scythians, and Sarmatians. These peoples, all of Iranian stock, maintained commercial and cultural relations with the Greek colonies.
200 CE: A period of great migrations began with the descent of the Goths from the Baltic region into Ukraine.
5th–6th : They displaced the Sarmatians, but their own power was broken about 375 by the invading Huns from the east, who were followed by the Bulgars and Avars.
