TIMELINE OF SPAIN

EARLY PEOPLE: in the Sierra De Atapuerca near Burgos, human bone fragments have been discovered which dated back around 780,000 years. Throughout the country there are fascinating caves which provide evidence of prehistoric life.

ROMAN SPAIN: the roman arrived in 200 BC and occupied the peninsula for over 600 years.

VISGOTHIC SPAIN: roman rule started to fade as Germanic tribes crossed the Pyrenees.

MOORISH SPAIN: in 711AD the moors invaded the peninsula from the North Africa.

CHRISTIAN RECONQUEST: after the moors christian reconquest began.

THE RISE AND FALL OF SPANISH EMPIRE: the discovery of american in thr 1492 AD planted the seed for colonial expansion.

JEWISH SPAIN: the Jewish community of Spain was Europe’s most vibrant Jewish community.

SPANISH CIVIL WAR: the Spanish civil war beagn after an uprising took place by parts of the army against the government of the 2nd Spanish republic. The uprising was led by general Franco whose nationalist forces eventually defeated the Republications in a civil war.
